Q: Why would U.S. and allied forces in Afghanistan go out of their way to smear a journalist?

A: Because he told the truth about a night raid that killed Afghan civilians, including pregnant women.

We spoke with Afghanistan-based journalist Jerome Starkey about his reporting on special forces raids that killed civilians and NATO’s surprising–and disappointing–response. This video contains disturbing images, and an even more disturbing story of violence, and an attempt to silence a truth-teller. It shows why it’s absolutely essential that we keep pushing back against the Pentagon’s message machine.

I have written about “Rethink Afghanistan” previously. Taking cues from their name, and their guest speakers, I slighted them for not coming out strongly in favor of: get OUT of Afghanistan.

I’m still not sure about the group’s ultimate goal. Do they want to liberate Afghanistan FROM the invading occupiers? Or are they merely looking for a way to pacify the natives while leaving an illegal and immoral occupation force on the ground? The answer to these simple questions could clarify a lot.

Either way, the above video shows business as usual in the occupation zone.
