Popcorn, candy, alcohol, check.

Funny dramedy with good quirks.  I guess I’m a sucker for wacky people on the edge of sanity.  The musical selections near the beginning nearly sunk this thing, but there was enough character to pull it through.

A real class distinction threads throughout the plot.  The elite world is drawn distinctly apart from the one most of us would recognize.  The main character, Imogene, finds herself in a life where she is fundamentally out of place, not where she should be.  An ugly shallowness to some of the 1 percenters seems expected; they are in opposition to her after all.  But there’s a bit more to it than the easy cliches.

Not every gag works, and some of it could have been milked a bit more, but Matt Dillon’s ridiculous secret agent shtick makes up for it.  Annette Bening delivers a fun over the top performance of New Jerseyisms and gambling addiction, that rings true.  I’ve seen it firsthand — full disclosure — and the New Jersey atmosphere had me in stitches.

Good review Joe. Ranks up there as one of my most-hated of the year. However, Dillon was a fun addition to the cast.
