Google Still Erasing History

1984 - 1

The battle over Google’s selective censorship continues. It seeks to neuter news content so that everything must essentially be suitable for sheltered children, or else it can freeze advertising revenue. This chilling effect has been making the news lately, beginning with the situation at Antiwar.com over 10 year old Abu Ghraib abuse photos.

How Google AdSense Censors the News

Google’s spokesmouth literally said this:

“A good rule of thumb is if it would be okay for a child in any region of the world to see that image, it’s acceptable.”

They are now on a Jihad to cut off advertising to any sites that don’t fall into that category… unless they’re big multinationals methinks.

Now ponder this:

Especially since it seems that once the process gets over to the “human review,” things get much more subjective. [Antiwar’s] Garris says Antiwar.com was reinstated after he got in touch by e-mail with AdSense public relations. But then AdSense came back and said the deal was off because of a May 2014 Antiwar story that featured an Associated Press photo showing a pile of dead people allegedly killed by Ukrainian government soldiers.

…“I think what they really might be trying to do is edit us so we either become less objectionable in their minds, or just get rid of us.”
