Queen of Earth – My Review

One and a half good scenes.

In the behind-the-scenes video it began to dawn on me why this film didn’t click. It didn’t seem to have a plot. I always want to see psychological stories, tales of extremes. I sometimes write them myself. But, I think the main shortcoming of Queen of Earth was that they didn’t take it seriously enough.

I would have to contrast another film I just reviewed, Victoria, a product of exact German engineering standards. Victoria, in one shot, is choreographed, meticulous, precise and above-all: deliberate.

The lackadaisical American crew behind Queen of Earth was diametrically opposite. Nothing was precise, intentional, purposed to use visual language, except for a couple of instances. The director didn’t seem to have arrived on set with clue; he hadn’t prepared, and didn’t even seem to know how to. Overall this movie lacked a strong foundation, and it came…

Attacked Covertly Through Facebook Today

Coinciding with my banning from a big Noam Chomsky hagiography circle jerk group my account was “frozen” under a bogus pretext of my password allegedly being stolen. “Some features” are still locked right now.

I had to jump through quite a few hoops to get back on Facebook at all. Then I saw that the group had banished me to the mean, evil dissenter ranks. Impure thoughts cannot be tolerated, you know.

Last thing I can remember is giving them the heads-up on “Chomsky’s Chumpskies,” which will be the very next installment of my series. I lost a few good quotes, but there are plenty out there in the wild. I have a long history with these people.

In the meantime, would someone send this to Noam Chomsky and his clown posse?

Brooklyn – My Review

Me dear mother highly recommended this film, as it reflects her own experiences coming to America. This romantic drama is a sure hit with the ladies. Four young girls who sat behind me were in love with heartthrob/Italian plumber Tony. Score one for Italy.

Of course I love Saoirse Ronan, and she’s delivered a multi-layered, nuanced performance. It’s a great time for female-powered period pieces with Carol, Suffragette, andThe Witch now out as well.

I’d mention half a dozen similarities of Brooklyn’s Ellis Lacey to my own ma’s plight, but the main one relevant to myself is her marrying a working-class Italiano from New York City, Brooklyn I believe. Fill in the blanks from there, and enjoy Brooklyn, a slow-paced, very common story of immigration, assimilation, and homesickness.
