On July 26, 2001, cbsnews.com reported that John Ashcroft had stopped flying on commercial airlines.
Ashcroft used to fly commercial, just as Janet Reno did. So why, two months before Sept. 11, did he start taking chartered government planes?
Because of a “threat assessment” by the FBI, he was told. But “neither the FBI nor the Justice Department … would identify what the threat was, when it was detected or who made it,” CBS News reported.
The FBI did advise Ashcroft to stay off commercial aircraft. The rest of us just had to take our chances.

“The 27th G8 summit was held in Genoa, Italy, on July 21–22, 2001...”
In an interview published Sept. 21 in the French newspaper Le Figaro, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said his government provided information to the United States about possible attacks on the Genoa summit by Saudi-born terrorist Osama bin Laden. “There was a question of an airplane stuffed with explosives. As a result, precautions were taken.”
The threats against Bush at Genoa were not made public until AFTER 9/11. Just as dozens, or perhaps hundreds, of associated warnings were also kept hidden.
- They knew.
- They did absolutely nothing to round up known Al Qaeda terrorists residing in the United States.
- They covered up everything.
- They protected Saudi sponsors of the hijackers.
