It’s not fucking complicated.

FreePress.net:
“Alt-right” is a term white nationalists and white supremacists use to obscure their overtly racist, anti-Semitic, xenophobic and misogynist agenda.
Too many media outlets are using the term without definition or context — and these omissions help normalize extremist groups and create an environment where increased levels of dehumanization, harassment and violence against Muslims, immigrants, people of color, women and LGBTQI folks become daily occurrences.
Tell the media: Stop doing PR for racists.
The Associated Press just released standards for reporting on the “alt-right” — urging the media to stop using the term without context.1 All news outlets should follow the AP’s recommendation to “avoid using the term generically and without definition … because it is not well known and … may exist primarily as a public-relations device to make its supporters’ actual beliefs less clear and more acceptable to a broader audience.”
People’s lives are at risk as members of the incoming Trump administration call for mass deportation of undocumented people, a ban on Muslims entering the country,2 and suppression of the Black vote.3According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, there were 701 reported incidents of hateful harassment in the 10 days following the election.4 These incidents can’t be separated from Trump’s hateful platform or the agenda of the so-called “alt-right.”5
Thanks for all that you do—

This is the kind of film that you root for and want to succeed, but you know it’s going to betray its own values. When you try to say something in a Hollywood film you have to negate that message, blunt it, reverse it by the ending. These pseudo-alternative stories inevitably reinforce the status quo: where the people who fund the films live, their values. So the viewer feels like the fell for a bait and switch (the modern American paradigm).
While half of Captain Fantastic’s arrows hit their targets the script also suffered from some stinging false notes. The movie rolls on in a fog of dread about whether they’ll nail the next scene or embarass themselves with hamfisted preachiness or a staged comeuppance.
I’m one of the people on the side of the main character, wanting him to succeed. The movie’s contrivances work against an honest exploration of…

Prepare for the Coming Shit Storm (TM)
At least six people were shot across the country during Black Friday sales, including a Walmart customer who died in a fight over a parking space.
Four separate shootings — at a New Jersey Macy’s, two Tennessee malls and a Nevada Walmart — killed two people and wounded four more. All the attacks happened outside of the stores as holiday shoppers inside loaded up on door busters and deals.
