The best Saturday Night Live could come up with is a parody of that godawful Independence Day nationalistic gibberish, the underdog America battling the overwhelming alien invasion. It’s so stupid and tone deaf, relying on fantasy aliens to provide your justification, that both the films and the sketch rank as tales of, by, and for idiots.
America is always the underdog for starters. The empire isn’t the underdog. Wrong sci-fi comparison. Then the slobbering militarism and nationalism, pledge of allegiance, etc. Get some intelligent satire, SNL.
The owners are playing right into the Chinese-are-coming and Russians-are-coming canned hysteria they’ve been manufacturing and peddling for the past few years. Unfortunately, that leaves the audience who buys into this nonsense about as dumb as Alec Baldwin’s Trump. But they’re real.
The propaganda barrage continues in plain sight.
In rhe real news, Trump just sent 900 troops into Syria, with 400 more requested and 2500 heading to Kuwait to also join in. That’s a very different narrative and reality, which SNL has nothing to say about.
