Get Out – My Review

A great movie, you should see it. A great AMERICAN movie that delves into the deepest recesses of the US experience. The racism is reinvented inside the horror genre, and with a modern twist to push it over the top.

I caught it in the second-run theater. When I arrived, on a Thursday night, it was surprisingly packed. The lobby, I mean. But when I finally entered the theater, I found that I was the only patron. I had the entire room to myself. My predominantly white and redneck town doesn’t go to see movies with black actors, apparently. This actually made the experience a bit more chilling and a bit more relevant.

It’s a disturbing narrative meant to provoke. The metaphor holds. The plantation, the masters, the slaves, it’s all meticulously rendered. What resonates is that they didn’t water it down, at all, to appease delicate sensibilities. Finally, an…
