Best of Today’s British #Comedy

UK comedy has come a long way since Monty Python. The Young Ones twisted television expectations in the 1980s, and stand-up thrives at The Apollo.

But several shows stand out today as relentless and packed with diverse talent in odd new roles that push their buttons, sometimes past the breaking point.

Jimmy Carr is the undisputed champion of British late-night shenanigans. He’s so quick and such a natural bad boy, that he leads the festivities at several of the monkey house panel shows. Particularly 8 Out of 10 Cats, the Big Fat Quiz series, and my favorite: 8 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown.

Countdown is a decent quiz show where contestants try to come up with the longest word possible from nine random letters, and they then battle to solve randomized math problems. Carr imported his comedian friends, most of them ill-equipped to play, and…
