The Wife – My Review | #Film

Serious indie films are still being made. This novel adaptation could not connect with any big enough American actor for the co-lead role. No one wanted to be the husband in a film called The Wife. For fourteen years or so they struggled, but eventually Jonathan Pryce came on board from the UK. He is, of course, one of the greats.

Can you imagine the pettiness of that situation, not willing to be second?

Glenn Close chose the project wisely. The story resonates, and it contains a plot device similar to Colette, another battle of the sexes film I reviewed here recently. The bias of yesteryear’s publishing industry is exposed.

Although the visuals and the acting are top notch, I had a hard time wrapping my head around why the situation went on for so long as well as the wife’s choice at the end. A complicated relationship…
