What to make of the latest satire from Sacha Baron Cohen?

He’s a Zionist, and so it includes lots of over the top anti-Jew baiting scenes, nearly all of which are completely unnecessary and irrelevant. It’s also premised on racism against central Asian people, completely racist. If it was targeted at another group it would be the focus of global protests. No one seems to call it out for that, it being so intrinsic and obvious to his shtick.

Moving past that, the story is about America, the republicans, the MAGA movement, armed dangerous rednecks, and also the plight of women. The true star is Borat’s daughter, who is supposedly 15 and being offered as a gift to high ranking Republicans. That’s the spine of the film, and it is interesting.

No doubt, Rudy Giuliani’s scene will be the talk of the Internet today. I can say that they stopped the scene before it got too conclusive. Bad choice. A few more seconds…

The veracity of the pranks is often in doubt. Research does seem to indicate the key moments were all authentic and risky. Cohen did wear a bullet-proof vest for a gig that had no need for one. He had them on board despite singing the praises of the Saudi’s mutilation of political opponents. The mind games are top notch and worth a watch. I wasn’t sold on the two yahoos he recruits, and it had me doubting how much of both films was staged.

I did laugh my ass off however.
