German coalition deal sets no timetable to end glyphosate use

“We will with a systematic minimalisation strategy significantly restrict use of plant protection chemicals containing glyphosate, with the goal of fundamentally ending usage as fast as possible,” the draft deal to establish a new German coalition government said.

You, of course, have to go to foreign news organizations to get the story on US corporations. US media is thoroughly corrupt.

Monsanto Faces Blowback Over Cancer Cover-Up

A release of internal emails has revealed that U.S. agrochemical giant Monsanto manipulated studies of the company’s herbicide, Roundup. Experts believe the product causes cancer – and the consequences for the company could be dire.

These documents tell an alarming story of ghostwriting, scientific manipulation, collusion with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and previously undisclosed information about how the human body absorbs glyphosate. The following secret documents help us better understand the serious public health consequences of Monsanto’s conduct in marketing the herbicide Roundup.

We sent the following Monsanto secret documents to (1) the EPA Office of Inspector General, Arthur Elkins, Jr., who is presently investigating whether there was illegal collusion between EPA and Monsanto; (2) the California’s Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), which recently listed glyphosate as a substance known to the state of California to cause cancer and is soliciting comments from Baum Hedlund and others to advise about whether glyphosate should be given a safe-harbor]; and (3) the European Parliament members, who recently sent a letter to the judge overseeing the MDL litigation, requesting documents as the EU considers whether it will renew registration of glyphosate for sale in Europe.

Obama’s EPA is ready to radically raise the amount of radiation in our water.

Comments

Beyond Nuclear:

Tell EPA: don’t repeat Flint! Protect our drinking water from radioactivity!
The EPA is proposing VERY high radiation levels for drinking water that can be used not only for emergency releases, but in any instance governments and regulators wish to ignore more protective standards. Added to food and other exposures, these levels will be even more dangerous to public health.

These levels can be thousands of times higher than current EPA standards. There is indication in documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act that, in some cases, these allowed exposures could cause acute radiation effects, such as vomiting and fever. Clearly EPA doesn’t remember Flint, MI and how they utterly failed to protect public health, particularly health of pregnancies and children.

Further, EPA is basing its pregnancy and childhood exposure levels on nearly unobtainable reports from a scientific body that takes funding from the nuclear industry lobbying group, the NEI.
Time is short so A CALL is needed! PLEASE CALL Gina McCarthy at 202-564-4700.
Tell her it is unacceptable that EPA is ignoring their own drinking water and risk standards, which are more protective of public health, in favor of industry.
Tell her it is unacceptable that the EPA seems to be keeping from public scrutiny parts of the Protective Action Guide (PAG), such as all radionuclide levels allowed by the guide; and not providing complete documents on which the PAG is based.

Tell her it is unacceptable that EPA would base childhood exposure levels on a report from a group that takes money from industry lobbyists.

If you also wish to comment on these so-called Protective Action Guides, the DEADLINE for comments is July 25, 2016. Beyond Nuclear will be making detailed comments on EPA’s proposed levels.

“California law requires certain substances identified by IARC to be listed as carcinogenic, the OEHHA said.”
Monsanto Sues California Over Roundup

FRESNO, Calif. (CN) – In a preemptive strike, Monsanto sued California to try to stop it from listing glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, as a carcinogen.
Monsanto sued the Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) on Thursday in Fresno County Court, seeking an injunction to stop it from glyphosate to the state’s Proposition 65 list of chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm.

…The OEHHA announced in September last year that it planned to add glyphosate to the Prop. 65 list after the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), based in France, classified it in March as a probable human carcinogen.

Monsanto ‘Deliberately Covered Up Data’ Proving Glyphosate is Cancerous for 4 Decades

…researchers are now saying that Monsanto demanded incriminating data and reports be sealed and locked away from public scrutiny as proprietary trade secrets, though they knew these documents would reveal glyphosate’s carcinogenic nature.

…caught twice when they utilized outside laboratories that were later found to have been criminal.

Two More European Countries Ban Monsanto’s GMO Crops

GMOs, Herbicides, and Public Health

Monsanto’s lies and its troll army are contradicted in no uncertain terms. They have monkeyed with science in numerous ways, and corrupted the process of ensuring food safety.

In our view, the science and the risk assessment supporting the Enlist Duo decision are flawed. The science consisted solely of toxicologic studies commissioned by the herbicide manufacturers in the 1980s and 1990s and never published, not an uncommon practice in U.S. pesticide regulation. These studies predated current knowledge of low-dose, endocrine-mediated, and epigenetic effects and were not designed to detect them. The risk assessment gave little consideration to potential health effects in infants and children, thus contravening federal pesticide law. It failed to consider ecologic impact, such as effects on the monarch butterfly and other pollinators. It considered only pure glyphosate, despite studies showing that formulated glyphosate that contains surfactants and adjuvants is more toxic than the pure compound.

…This decision was made in haste. It was based on poorly designed and outdated studies and on an incomplete assessment of human exposure and environmental effects.

…National Toxicology Program should urgently assess the toxicology of pure glyphosate, formulated glyphosate, and mixtures of glyphosate and other herbicides.

Labeling will deliver multiple benefits. It is essential for tracking emergence of novel food allergies and assessing effects of chemical herbicides applied to GM crops.

Fears over Roundup herbicide residues prompt private testing

Tests by Abraxis found glyphosate residues in 41 of 69 honey samples and in 10 of 28 soy sauces; Microbe tests detected glyphosate in three of 18 breast milk samples and in six of 40 infant formula samples.
