You’re no longer allowed to be white, apparently. Ghost in the Shell has provoked a backlash of endless whining about the specious concept of “appropriation.” If it wasn’t so tiresome and ridiculous I’d treat it seriously. It’s not. Cultures share. That’s the entire history of humanity. Perhaps Japan can stop using Henry Ford’s good-old-American automobile concept?

Some are gloating about “weak” box office for the film today. But is it?
The live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell died at the box office this weekend, bringing in $19 million in ticket sales [in the US alone] against a budget of $110 million. The film brought in $40 million internationally, although it has yet to open in Japan or China.”
So it took in half its budget in one weekend. The people who love anime the most haven’t even had a chance to go. But it’s being declared dead a bit prematurely. I’m ready to head out and see it for myself.
Two American studios financed the film. They decided on the casting. If a Japanese studio wanted to risk $110M, they could have cast whomever they liked. In the US, we have a population:
“Whites (including Hispanics who identify as White) constitute the majority, with a total of about 246,660,710, or 77.35% of the population as of 2014.”
Pure evil. We have 77% white people, and so probably should never make another movie, television show or anything else. White is evil by nature, don’t you know? Bad white people, for existing…
PS
“If that’s not allowed, then Darth Vader probably shouldn’t speak English, either.”
