He told the truth about the US empire and its crimes.
William Blum, Renowned U.S. Foreign Policy Critic, Dead at 85

This is a sad day. Bill Blum had chronicled the last few decades in his dispatches, which were posted here too. He had an expert bullshit-detector, and he knew the machinations of the power-hungry elite. It’s a great loss to the world that we won’t have his Anti-Empire Reports anymore. He leaves a number of books and articles that are still relevant to us now.

-Joe Giambrone

“His book Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions Since World War II–first published in 1995 and updated in 2004–has received international acclaim.

…Blum is also the author of America’s Deadliest Export: Democracy – The Truth About U.S. Foreign Policy and Everything Else (2013), Rogue State: A Guide to the World’s Only Superpower (updated edition 2005), West-Bloc Dissident: A Cold War Memoir (2002), and Freeing the World to Death: Essays on the American Empire (2004).  His books have been translated into more than 15 languages.

Danny Schechter was also a contributor here. He was a voice of reason and experience in a world full up with propaganda and irrationalism. I talked with him several times through email, and he was generous enough to send some of his articles for the blog.

Cancer takes film critic icon Roger Ebert.

I didn’t always agree with Roger Ebert, but I did a lot more often than I didn’t.
