(Theft of property without due process should be considered a crime.)

DPA:

Eric Holder just issued a huge blow to the drug war. This is big.

Today the Justice Department barred local and state police from using a federal program to seize a person’s property without evidence of a crime.

That might sound odd, since you would assume that it was already illegal in America for police to take your property without due process – but you would be wrong. Originally pushed in the 1980s as a way to combat illegal drugs, civil asset forfeiture has become common throughout the country.

Today people all over America who are simply suspected of drug law violations can have their assets seized without any ability to defend themselves in a court of law. Even if they are never convicted, or even charged with a crime they can have their property, bank accounts, cars, and assets taken from them forever. If this doesn’t enrage you, I don’t know what will.

Civil asset forfeiture is another ugly aspect of the drug war, and here at the Drug Policy Alliance we are making it a top issue in 2015.

If you stand with us tweet out your support now to end unjust civil asset forfeiture for good!

Today’s actions by Eric Holder are a good first step to ending the unjust enforcement of this program once and for all. But now Congress needs to pass legislation to make this change permanent.

Sincerely,

Bill Piper

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden

The Issue Is: Has Glenn Greenwald Been Bought Off???

“To make this most convoluted and outrageous story short: while the whistleblower who obtained and released the documents to two journalists had to escape the country, be threatened with death and prosecution and jail, the secondary owner of these same stolen and highly-classified documents was able to secure a $250 million joint venture with a government-connected American corporate mogul in the United States, strike multi-million dollar deals with American mainstream mega publishers and Movie Studios, charge mega bucks for exclusive interviews and information, show his face regularly on all American mainstream media outlets and pose for every single mainstream magazine …”
Previously Sibel and Greenwald have been feuding on Twitter.

I’ve been writing about this stuff for decades, and readers here should already know this stuff.  Hopefully they’re God damned mad about it and not going to take it anymore.

There’s a reason I cite George Orwell over and over again.

Washington Post:

U.S., British intelligence mining data from nine U.S. Internet companies in broad secret program

“The National Security Agency and the FBI are tapping directly into the central servers of nine leading U.S. Internet companies, extracting audio and video chats, photographs, e-mails, documents, and connection logs that enable analysts to track foreign targets, according to a top-secret document obtained by The Washington Post.”

Congress Investigates Lies of Attorney General

The DOJ seems to have taken a sizable gamble in exercising the Espionage Act to keep its surveillance of members of the press a secret, and the Daily Mail’s source into an ongoing Congressional probe indicates that the Attorney General may still bear the brunt of the blame

One post below I posted a link to representatives to demand a stop to Justice Dept. (sic) spying on journalists.

Another organization sent me a similar petition / letter. This one is directed to… who else?  Eric Holder, the Attorney General, the man responsible for the crime.

Progressives don’t get it.

They never did.

They are being misled from above to do inconsequential, meaningless symbolic acts that make their followers feel good and maintain the system exactly as it is.  That is why they won’t support 3rd parties to challenge the criminal two-party duopoly.

It may seem I’m extrapolating a lot from one letter, but it’s simply the last straw, the blatant red flag that makes the whole charade too nauseating to stomach today.

You don’t change the Mafia by writing letters to Al Capone.

Are progressives stupid?

Serious question.

Dear Attorney General Eric Holder:

Your officials are reportedly monitoring journalists’ phone records. You’re supposed to protect journalists’ rights, not trample on them. You must stop this attack on press freedom.

Problem is that this is the same criminal organization that a few months ago they were demanding we re-elect into office.  This is the same criminal clique that for four years should have been impeached for many, many violations of the constitution.   Of course actually removing these people, investigating their crimes against the American people and locking them up cannot be spoken.  So they write pointless letters amounting to: ‘Please stop committing crimes; you’re making us feel bad.

Douche bags.

A new breakthrough at the UN Commission for Human Rights:

UN demands US leaders be charged with War Crimes over Torture

After eight years of stonewalling and resistance by US and UK authorities, the UN special investigator addressed the world body’s Human Rights Commission publicly, demanding the two nations cooperate with the investigation.

Ben Emmerson, the lead special investigator, described to the gathered UN dignitaries a setting of self-approved legal immunity among US and UK national leaders. He called the two governments’ standing policy, “A policy of de facto immunity for public officials who engaged in acts of torture, rendition and secret detention, and their superiors and political masters who authorized these acts.”

This is one for the Quotables page:

“Platitudinous repetition of statements affirming opposition to torture ring hollow to many in those parts of the Middle East and North Africa that have undergone, or are undergoing, major upheaval, since they have first-hand experience of living under repressive regimes that used torture in private whilst making similar statements in public.”

Emmerson directly calls out Barack Obama:

“The skepticism of these communities can only be reinforced if Western governments continue to demonstrate resolute indifference to the crimes committed by their predecessor administrations.”

[123] Sequestering the Poor, UFO Phenomena, Wall St. Extorts Washington

Must quibble with the guest about calling Eric Holder “afraid” of prosecuting JP Morgan and the Wall Street banksters. Eric Holder is not afraid. Eric Holder is an employee of said banksters. He is where he is to do the job he is doing. There’s nothing to do with fear at all. Why would anyone believe a criminal’s excuse for why he’s too “afraid” to do his job? He is aiding and abetting the banksters, that makes him one of them.
