Two More European Countries Ban Monsanto’s GMO Crops

Glyphosate is “definitely genotoxic”, says Prof Chris Portier, a co-author of the report by the World Health Organisation’s cancer agency, which classed glyphosate as a probable carcinogen

Prof Christopher Portier, one of the co-authors of the recent report by the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which determined that glyphosate is a probable carcinogen, said at a scientific briefing today, “Glyphosate is definitely genotoxic. There is no doubt in my mind.”

One day after posting that the chief of Monsanto, India admitted to faking testing/safety dataoutright fraud — we have TV personality/science geek Bill Nye cozying up to the Frankenfood company.

What Did Monsanto Show Bill Nye to Make Him Fall “in Love” With GMOs?

Nye has stumbled into a political/corruption war that he is evidently woefully unprepared for. Science geeks can be pretty damn gullible when given so-called evidence by other science geeks. That the evidence is cooked up by a profit-driven house of lies, a very sophisticated one at that, goes right over the geek’s head. Expertise in one area (laboratory) doesn’t translate to expertise in others (deception, lies, corruption, Astroturfing, rigged testing, bribery, etc.).

In his book Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, published just last November, Nye reiterated these points. His concern about GMOs centered mainly on unintended consequences of growing them over large expanses—he cited the example of crops engineered to resist herbicides, which have been linked pretty decisively to the decline of monarch butterflies, which rely on abundant milkweeds, which in turn have been largely wiped out in the Midwest by GMO-enabled herbicide use. Nye praised certain GMOs, such as corn engineered to repel certain insects, but concluded that “if you’re asking me, we should stop introducing genes from one species into another,” because “we just can’t know what will happen to other species in that modified species’ ecosystem.”

Now, Nye’s doubts have evidently fallen away like milkweeds under a fine mist of herbicide. In a February interview filmed backstage on Bill Maher’s HBO show (starting about 3:40 in the below video), Nye volunteered that he was working on a revision of the GMO section of Undeniable. He gave no details, just that he “went to Monsanto and I spent a lot of time with the scientists there.” As a result, he added with a grin, “I have revised my outlook, and am very excited about telling the world. When you’re in love, you want to tell the world!”

European Network of Scientists for Social and Environmental Responsibility
Statement: No scientific consensus on GMO safety

As scientists, physicians, academics, and experts from disciplines relevant to the scientific, legal, social and safety assessment aspects of genetically modified organisms (GMOs),[1] we strongly reject claims by GM seed developers and some scientists, commentators, and journalists that there is a “scientific consensus” on GMO safety[2] [3] [4] and that the debate on this topic is “over”.[5]

We feel compelled to issue this statement because the claimed consensus on GMO safety does not exist. The claim that it does exist is misleading and misrepresents the currently available scientific evidence and the broad diversity of opinion among scientists on this issue. Moreover, the claim encourages a climate of complacency that could lead to a lack of regulatory and scientific rigour and appropriate caution, potentially endangering the health of humans, animals, and the environment…

Decisions on the future of our food and agriculture should not be based on misleading and misrepresentative claims that a “scientific consensus” exists on GMO safety.

Study: Monsanto’s Roundup Herbicide Linked to Cancer, Autism, Parkinson’s

In light of massive global protests against this poisoning of the food supply, the fascist Obama Administration has ignored the people’s valid health concerns and allowed more Round-Up contamination to enter the food supply and be ingested by pretty much the whole population.  Only Organic Certified foods and homegrown gardens are reasonably assured of being glyphosate free.

This is a clear and present danger to the entire nation.  This abomination should be stopped immediately, like so many other of the official Washington policies that are in direct opposition to the interests of the public.

This is what an ignorant, distracted citizenry invites in.

Natrual Society:

“Interestingly, and not surprisingly, this is not the first piece of research to find complications arising from GM food consumption. One French GMO study concluded that rats fed a lifelong diet consisting of genetically modified corn suffered serious consequences, including tumor development, heavy amounts of damage to multiple organs, and premature death. This isn’t surprising, seeing as one analysis found Monsanto’s GM corn to be nutritionally dead and highly toxic.”

Washington’s Blog keeps from barfing long enough to look into the genetic mutant SALMON now scheduled for grocery store shelves. I guess a lot of people will swallow just about anything.

This is food fraud, and classic corruption by the FDA.

It is the same type of collusion between government and big business which has caused the financial crisis, the Fukushima nuclear meltdown, the Gulf oil spill and other major disasters  (and see this; and number 9).

As we noted last year:

Given that genetically engineered foods have been linked to obesity, cancer, liver failure, infertility and all sorts of other diseases (brief videos here and here), the burden should be on the … gmo producers to prove it’s safe.
