Letter to the Editor:

Controversy has erupted concerning the film Zero Dark Thirty, precisely because the plot is based on a lie, a false premise: that CIA torture led to the location of Osama bin Laden. The Senate Select Committee on Intelligence investigated the torture scandal thoroughly, and has now gone on the record as saying:

“Instead, the CIA learned of the existence of the courier, his true name and location through means unrelated to the CIA detention and interrogation program.”

The film, whether intentional or not on the part of the filmmakers, presents a false, revisionist history that is pro-torture in nature. In the fictional world of the CIA, the torture leads to this information. In the real world, it was completely unrelated. This is a key fact that should register with the public. Torture is a felony crime, a war crime, and it is never permissible under the law in any circumstances.
