I trusted Baz completely to deliver Elvis, and he did not disappoint.

I think it’s a pretty fair take, inaccurate in spots, but the grandeur of the man is captured. It was an emotional ride like only the best of the best movies can do. I’m so happy to have gotten to see this in theater.

I would say that even if you’re not an Elvis fan you will be by the end. What he did is chronicled perfectly with the historical changes happening all around. Seems like no expense was spared, and the worlds are convincingly authentic. I’m predicting three specific Oscar nods: best actor, best supporting actor and best director. We shall see later.

How could you NOT root for Elvis, when he was all about the music?

Colin in Black and White’ Trailer: Kaepernick

“Wokeness” is something other than morality. It’s an ideology controlled by bumper sticker memes rather than facts and logic. And it’s a mess.

This is a black-American odyssey, a road movie, and kind of unflinching. From the trailer I knew I wanted to see it.

There are some intense, gritty films about race over the past few years. The country is finally coming to terms with its abhorrent past and can talk about it. Black filmmakers are successful and reaching wider audiences. And yet the problem remains the same.

At times spot on, and at other times playful and loose, Queen & Slim was a thought-provoking ride that resonated with me. The police are universally understood in the black community (in the world of the film) as being a brutal, occupying force. The solidarity of the community and the united front of the community are key parts of the narrative. It is about resistance, rebellion, and the dysfunctional system in place. The damage is physical, moral, psychological and lethal.

This should be an instant cult classic, so check it out.

PS

In yet another absurdity, Facebook censored the above post, exactly as it is, now disallowing film blogs to post trailers of films. They claim it’s “spam.” I wonder if that applies to all film blogs and their deluge of Avengers drivel, or is it more focused on police murder and documentaries about political issues?
