Ben Norton:

Max Blumenthal, the editor of the news site The Grayzone, was arrested on the morning of October 25 on a fabricated charge related to the siege of the Venezuelan embassy in Washington, DC that took place between April and May.

A team of DC police officers appeared at Blumenthal’s door at just after 9 AM, demanding entry and threatening to break his door down. A number of officers had taken positions on the side of his home as though they were prepared for a SWAT-style raid.

‘This charge is 100% false’: Grayzone editor Max Blumenthal arrested months after reporting on Venezuelan opposition violence

Blumenthal was informed that he was accused of simple assault by a Venezuelan opposition member. He declared the charge completely baseless.

Max Blumenthal is one of the few real journalists left in this plastic fake news empire. He tells the truth about terrorism, foreign policy, Syria, etc. Get his book:

His request for a phone call was denied by DC police and corrections officers, effectively denying him access to the outside world.

The right to freedom of speech only protects people against adverse actions by the government:  It does not insulate them from retaliation in the private economic sector.  Therefore, freedom of speech is usually the purview of the rich, whose resources allow them to survive such retaliation.

The right to freedom of the press doesn’t necessarily give writers access to the press, and, even when it does, these writers incessantly have to run through a gauntlet of “editors,” who ultimately decide if certain works are “worthy” of publication, and, if so, in what form.

Those guys have balls. They managed to report on ISIS without incident, then get arrested by US ally and NATO member Turkey, for telling the world what’s going on.

This is one year old:

Three Muslim students murdered in cold blood in North Carolina, but the word “terrorism” appears nowhere in the article. I see. It’s only terrorism if the victims are Europeans/Americans, or if their deaths can be exploited to further US imperial policies. It’s not too complicated. It’s called the double standard, and it is the underlying foundation of our imperialistic culture.

When Fake Videos Go Viral: What the Fake Syria Sniper Boy Video Tell Us About “Media Experts”

The western press very quickly accepted the video as real and used it to support the US administration’s narrative on Syria. Many top US news sources began to spread the story. Even though the producer said he explicitly added big hints that the video was fake, like the children surviving multiple gun shots.

Propagating false stories on Syria, is nothing new for the western press. In the lead up to the conflict many stories were exposed as frauds, such as the Anti-government activist “Gay Girl in Damascus” which turned out to be a middle-aged American man in Scotland. Syrian Danny Abdul Dayem which was frequently interviewed by CNN was using fake gun fire and flames in his interviews.

…These tweets were inline with an official State Department Twitter account @ThinkAgain_DOS which blamed Assad for the fictitious bullets in the film. This casts doubt on how deeply the US administration scrutinizes information it bases it’s policy on.

How the Media Protects Obama

Another White House flack, Eric Schultz, didn’t like being pressed for answers about the Fast and Furious scandal in which American agents directed guns into the arms of Mexican drug lords. “Goddammit, Sharyl!” he screamed at her. “The Washington Post is reasonable, the LA Times is reasonable, The New York Times is reasonable. You’re the only one who’s not reasonable!”
