Total Ban on Fracking Urged by Health Experts

I’ve posted the Lancet editor’s comments before, but here is more, and from the US National Institute of Health, no less:

Skeptical of medical science reports?

“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as editor of The New England Journal of Medicine
-Marcia Angell (New England Journal of Medicine)

“The case against science is straightforward: much of the scientific literature, perhaps half, may simply be untrue. Afflicted by studies with small sample sizes, tiny effects, invalid exploratory analyses, and flagrant conflicts of interest, together with an obsession for pursuing fashionable trends of dubious importance, science has taken a turn towards darkness”
-Richard Horton (Lancet)

And the WHY:

The first article showed how the relationships between pharmaceutical companies and academic physicians at prestigious universities impacted certain drug-related publications and the marketing of prescription drugs. Potential conflicts of interest seemed to abound: millions of dollars in consulting and speaking fees to physicians who promoted specific drugs, public research dollars being used by a researcher to test a drug owned by a company in which the researcher held millions of dollars in shares, failure of university researchers to disclose income from drug companies, company subsidies to physician continuing education, publishing practice guidelines involving drugs in which the authors have a financial interest, using influential physicians to promote drugs for unapproved uses, bias in favor of a product coming from failure to publish negative results and repeated publication of positive results in different forms.

Reality strikes again.

Is the Autism Epidemic Real?

Robert Kennedy Jr. attacks a book called NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity.

  • California documented the rapid increase in autism among that state’s children since the 1980s, noting that, as of 2003, that “autism, once a rare disorder, is now more prevalent than childhood cancer, diabetes and Down Syndrome.” No similar rise has been demonstrated in adults.

Cancer on the Rise in Post-Fukushima Japan

In Fairewinds’ latest update of the ongoing nuclear catastrophe at Fukushima Daiichi, Chief Engineer Arnie Gundersen presents two reports that confirm the direct link of numerous cancers in Japan to the triple meltdown. Based upon data from Japanese medical professionals and utility owner of the meltdown site, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), Arnie concludes that heavy radioactive discharges will be the cause of enormous spikes in cancer in Japan.

TEPCO’s press release confirms the leukemia diagnosis for a TEPCO worker due to his ongoing exposure during the last four years to radiation from the Fukushima Daiichi triple meltdown. Sadly, during the early months of the Fukushima Daiichi emergency, most TEPCO workers did not wear the required dosimeters required to measure each employee’s exposure to radiation, which has made accurate assessment of the radiation doses received by TEPCO employees impossible.

The second report, provided by esteemed Japanese medical professionals, reveals that the incidence of thyroid cancer is approximately 230 times higher than normal in the Fukushima Prefecture.  This disturbing number for the people of Japan is solely due to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster and the ongoing radioactivity emanating from the decimated nuclear site.

In this video, Arnie recounts his presentation from 2013 at the New York Academy of Medicine where he forecast continuous radiation releases from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, and also the devastating health effects for the Japanese people, despite the chronically underestimated radiation exposure levels propagated by the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the Japanese government.

Over half of psychology studies fail reproducibility test

Don’t trust everything you read in the psychology literature. In fact, two thirds of it should probably be distrusted.

Medical Journals Are an Extension of the Marketing Arm of Pharmaceutical Companies

The evidence is strong that companies are getting the results they want, and this is especially worrisome because between two-thirds and three-quarters of the trials published in the major journals—Annals of Internal Medicine, JAMA, Lancet, and New England Journal of Medicineare funded by the industry [9].

If you missed the scathing critique by the Lancet editor go here. The scam is being exposed in publication after publication. Big Pharma buys favorable coverage, including so-called favorable “peer review.”

Examples of Methods for Pharmaceutical Companies to Get the Results They Want from Clinical Trials

  • Conduct a trial of your drug against a treatment known to be inferior.
  • Trial your drugs against too low a dose of a competitor drug.
  • Conduct a trial of your drug against too high a dose of a competitor drug (making your drug seem less toxic).
  • Conduct trials that are too small to show differences from competitor drugs.
  • Use multiple endpoints in the trial and select for publication those that give favourable results.
  • Do multicentre trials and select for publication results from centres that are favourable.
  • Conduct subgroup analyses and select for publication those that are favourable.
  • Present results that are most likely to impress—for example, reduction in relative rather than absolute risk.

New Report From The NEJM On Clinical Trial Reporting Further Tarnishes Biopharma’s Image

New England Journal of Medicine destroys the bullshit monkey wrenching of pharmaceutical trials and cover-up. It’s difficult to find any aspect of our top-down corporatocracy that isn’t completely full of shit and running on fraud and propaganda.

The action may put a stop to the practice of cherry picking outcomes for public disclosure. An investigation published in March found that during the following 12 months after completion of industry funded trials, only 17% of trial outcomes had been reported.

This number increased to just 41% after five years. Results for the trials funded by the National Institutes of Health produced only 8% disclosure after 12 months, and 38% after five yearsIt is logical to assume that the results presented to the public were supportive of study hypotheses.

Biology Fortified, Inc. misleads the public on GMO safety

Assembling big lists of studies supposedly providing overwhelming evidence of the safety of GMOs has become common practice by GMO proponents. GENERA is just the latest in a long series of such lists. The success of the tactic depends on the reading public failing to examine the actual studies and seeing what they say.

“However, this review suffers from serious defects, such as:

  • classifying relatively short studies as long-term, even though they only follow the animals for a fraction of their natural lifespan
  • including animal production studies designed to examine parameters such as meat or milk production, which do not look for health effects
  • including studies on fish and birds, which have a different digestive system and metabolism from those of humans and are not relevant to assessing human health risks
  • including studies in which the sample sizes are too small to draw any conclusions
  • including a study in which animals were removed from the experiment for undefined reasons and replaced (naturally this study concluded the GMO was safe!)
  • using unscientific double standards in dismissing the findings of studies that find toxic effects on the grounds of methodological weaknesses, while accepting at face value the findings of studies that conclude safety, even though they suffer from the same methodological weaknesses.”

Cannabis: A new frontier in therapeutics

Neuropsychiatrist and Director of the Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research (CMCR) at the University of California, San Diego Dr. Igor Grant is interested in the short and long-term neuropsychiatric effects of marijuana use. The CMCR has overseen some of the most extensive research on the therapeutic effects of medical marijuana in the U.S. “Despite a commonly held view that cannabis use results in brain damage, meta analyses of extensive neurocognitive studies fail to demonstrate meaningful cognitive declines among recreational users,” says Dr. Grant. “Bain imaging has produced variable results, with the best designed studies showing null findings.”

Proof That the FDA Isn’t Protecting Americans’ Health

But a new study shows the FDA also goes to extreme lengths—from bureaucratic obfuscation to outright redactions—to hide any links between that negligence and any particular drug…

FDA removes any information in those letters that could be tied back to the drug being studied—by omitting or redacting the names of drugs, the names of clinical trials, and any information describing how the misconduct affected the outcome of the trial.
