CDC Removed Information On Coughing and Sneezing From Ebola Q&A

“An earlier version of the page is still available in Google’s cache. It said that while Ebola is not “airborne” like chickenpox or tuberculosis, it can travel a few feet in the air inside droplets emitted when someone coughs or sneezes.

“A person might also get infected by touching a surface or object that has germs on it and then touching their mouth or nose,” the document said.

The CDC has also changed an Ebola Q&A, deleting the below question about coughing and sneezing (which are not typical Ebola symptoms):

Can Ebola spread by coughing? By sneezing?

Unlike respiratory illnesses like measles or chickenpox, which can be transmitted by virus particles that remain suspended in the air after an infected person coughs or sneezes, Ebola is transmitted by direct contact with body fluids of a person who has symptoms of Ebola disease. Although coughing and sneezing are not common symptoms of Ebola, if a symptomatic patient with Ebola coughs or sneezes on someone, and saliva or mucus come into contact with that person’s eyes, nose or mouth, these fluids may transmit the disease.

The version of the Q&A still online notes that Ebola can survive on doorknobs for several hours. The removed question is available in Google’s cache from Oct. 29.”

Ebola nurse ‘made to feel like criminal’ on return to US

Kaci Hickox was placed in quarantine under a policy announced on Friday by New Jersey governor Chris Christie and New York governor Andrew Cuomo, which requires anyone flying into the states after having contact with Ebola sufferers in west Africa to be subject to mandatory isolation for 21 days

1st development: much-needed quarantine is now in place, but only in two states. That leaves 48 others where the disease can enter much more easily.

2nd development:

Hickox had sharp criticisms of the additional restrictions. She wrote: “This is not a situation I would wish on anyone, and I am scared for those who will follow me.”

Okay, it sucks to be quarantined for 3 weeks. You know what sucks more? Killing a few thousand innocent people because you were allowed to recklessly spread a highly contagious disease. I’m sorry for your inconvenience Ms. Hickox, but you volunteered to expose yourself to the most deadly contagion on the planet. It has already killed numerous doctors and nurses. That has been the main transmission pathway taking it across long distances.

Now I hope the authorities are not mistreating anyone, but the basic fact of quarantining is not cruel or unusual punishment. Quarantined people should be put up in nice accommodations and given access to communications and whatever luxuries make the stay comfortable. But they should not be allowed to risk the public’s safety after dealing directly with ebola patients. There’s no wiggle room here.

She is angry because she isn’t showing symptoms–yet. Well that’s how it works, and she above all should know that. If we are to contain this pandemic we need to take strong actions to prevent new people from becoming infected. Common sense, finally, after reckless incompetence has guided the policy for almost a year.

development 3: The government, Obama in particular, likes to hide behind the empty slogan “science.” The actual science has shown there’s a 12% chance that 21 days is not long enough. That crucial science is missing from pretty much all news coverage so far.

development 4:

US hospitals lack infection prevention personnel and resources to confront Ebola, survey shows

“Only 6 percent of US hospitals are well-prepared to receive a patient with the Ebola virus, according to a survey of infection prevention experts at US hospitals conducted Oct. 10-15.”

What they do regularly in secret will shock you.

Accidents in Germ Labs and the Ebola Pandemic

More than 1,100 laboratory incidents involving bacteria, viruses and toxins that pose significant or bioterror risks to people and agriculture were reported to federal regulators during 2008 through 2012,

Ludwig said researchers at the facility will likely start out working on vaccines for filoviruses such as Ebola and Marburg, as well as new anthrax vaccines.

The facility will have the capability to produce viruses in aerosolized form that would simulate a potential biological attack on the test animals.

“Craig Spencer, a 33-year-old emergency room doctor, returned from Guinea more than a week ago and reported Thursday coming down with a 103-degree fever and diarrhea.”

So how many people can you pass a bug to in a week? More to the point, all it takes is one who doesn’t know he/she’s been contaminated with Ebola to start an epidemic here in the US.

A Doctors Without Borders doc who was treating Ebola patients should have been QUARANTINED, not allowed to run around New York City. But, that would make TOO MUCH FUCKING SENSE!!!

I am disgusted with the mindless obfuscators who have been ignoring reality to score political points almost as much as with the White House and CDC.

Perhaps this species is just too fucking stupid and crazy to go the distance?

Can the US match the intensity and thoroughness of the Nigerians?

How Did Nigeria Quash Its Ebola Outbreak So Quickly?
  • Fast and thorough tracing of all potential contacts

  • Ongoing monitoring of all of these contacts

  • Rapid isolation of potentially infectious contacts

The swift battle was won not only with vigilant disinfecting, port-of-entry screening and rapid isolation but also with boot leather and lots and lots of in-person follow-up visits, completing 18,500 of them to find any new cases of Ebola among a total of 989 identified contacts.

It may be argued that they got lucky, in order to know “all” of the “potential contacts.” Such complete knowledge of infections is a rare thing and not the norm.

Amid Assurances on Ebola, Obama Is Said to Seethe

“It’s not tight,” a visibly angry Mr. Obama said of the response, according to people briefed on the meeting. He told aides they needed to get ahead of events and demanded a more hands-on approach, particularly from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. “He was not satisfied with the response,” a senior official said.”

Neither are we.

The outbreak was known since at least last December (2013). Still the border is wide open to anyone who feels like flying here from Liberia or the other infected nations. There is at least a 21 day incubation period (some studies suggest longer) where the virus is non-detectable.

Everyone who has visited those nations needs to be quarantined, period. This is life and death with the potential to wipe out millions. The UN and CDC have already acknowledged up to 1.4 million cases predicted by January 20 of 2015. This disease has the capacity for exponential growth. Drastic measures need to be implemented immediately. Anything less is criminal negligence.

CDC has already published that up to 1.4 million Ebola cases may affect Africa by January 20 of 2015.  Perhaps this explains some of it…

Government Indifference Compounds Ebola Disaster

United Nations officials said Thursday that the UN trust fund for Ebola has only $100,000 on hand, a fraction of the nearly $1 billion the world body says is needed to contain the spread of the deadly virus. While the UN fund has received pledges of about $20 million from various governments, it has received only $100,000 in actual cash deposits, and that from only one country, Colombia.

No such admissions from the CDC for even worse incompetence.

Dallas Ebola Patient, Says CDC Gave Her Green Light To Fly

Nurse who treated Liberian ebola patient — who died — allowed to get on a plane and spread the disease far and wide, with a fever. How is this possible? Incompetence only explains so many fuck ups. At some point mistakes indicate enemy action, coordinated activity, a threat, a clear and present danger to our safety.

They have still refused to ban travel to Liberia. More patients can bring in the epidemic. They have not provided hospitals with sufficient protective gear, claiming that cloth masks are sufficient. This misdirection directly led to this nurse becoming infected.

Study questions 21-day quarantine period for Ebola
“Experts say there could be up to a 12 percent chance that someone could be infected even after the 21-day quarantine.”

More evidence that the people in charge have no fucking clue what they’re doing, and sure aren’t doing enough to sort it out.
